User Spots the Ability to Activate Android with a Phone Number

You’ve always had to had a Google/Gmail account to activate an Android device, but that might be changing in the future. At least one person who recently activated their device noticed something different. Instead of requiring your Google/Gmail account, it seems Android will let you activate your device with an email account or a phone number.
